CD (Item 465187) Columbia/Rev-Ola (UK), 1973 — Condition: New Copy

Rare post-Warner Brothers work from The Association – an album that's gentler and more mature than their earlier hits, done in a great blend of soft rock and post-Sunshine styles! The sound here is quite different even than the last Warner albums – which brought in a bit heavier guitars – and the group are going for a style that's beautifully mellow, and produced with this compressed groove that makes wonderful use of their classic harmonies. And while you might expect such a record to be too smooth, or too slickly AOR, the overall sound is still quite personal, and almost fragile – carried off carefully through instrumental arrangements by Benny Golson that never dominate the vocals, and only shade in the tunes with the right touches for the right moments. Titles include "Come The Fall", "Midnight Wind", "Silent Song Thru The Land", "Darling Be Home Soon", "Rainbows Bent", "Kicking The Gong Around", "Indian Wells Woman", and the sublime "Snow Queen".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
