Rare post-Warner Brothers work from The Association – an album that's gentler and more mature than their earlier hits, done in a great blend of soft rock and post-Sunshine styles! The sound here is quite different even than the last Warner albums – which brought in a bit heavier guitars – and the group are going for a style that's beautifully mellow, and produced with this compressed groove that makes wonderful use of their classic harmonies. And while you might expect such a record to be too smooth, or too slickly AOR, the overall sound is still quite personal, and almost fragile – carried off carefully through instrumental arrangements by Benny Golson that never dominate the vocals, and only shade in the tunes with the right touches for the right moments.
