Seminal work from the post-Clyde McPhatter version of The Drifters – a sublime batch of singles that really showcase all that's great from the second chapter of the group! The set's way more than a "best of" – as it was the only full album to feature most of these cuts – and together, they really illustrate the excellent changes the group had made – including their alliance with the Leiber & Stoller team, and their great use of exotic rhythms and instrumentation! Some cuts still echo earlier R&B, while others have plenty of cool Latin elements in the mix too – a rhythm that really works well for the vocals of Ben E King's lead with the group. Titles include "Sweets For My Sweet", "There Goes My Baby", "Stranger On The Shore", "Save The Last Dance For Me", "When My Little Girl Is Smiling", "Ruby Baby", "True Love True Love","Another Night With The Boys", "What To Do", "Mexican Divorce", and "Room Full Of Tears". (Red & purple label pressing. Cover has discoloration due to age, some wear, some seam splitting, a bit of pen on the front, and small stains on the back.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Sublime mid-period work from The Drifters – a record cut when the group was working with the team of Lieber & Stoller, who revamped their sound into a sweetly soulful groove that really set the scene for the New York uptown sound of the 60s! The tracks here often have a lilting little ... LP, Vinyl record album

A great little album by The Drifters – different than most of their other work for Atlantic, but still quite nice! The bulk of the album features the group running through jazzy versions of pop tunes – like "Quando Quando Quando", "More", "The Good Life", ... LP, Vinyl record album

The Drifters' last full album for Atlantic Records – and a rock-solid set that may well be one of their best for the label in the 60s! The album's heavy on those lightly loping tunes that the group virtually invented a few years before – that slightly-sweetened approach to soul that ... LP, Vinyl record album

Take Time To Know Her
Atlantic, 1968. Very Good-
It's hard to imagine a more perfect 60s southern soul album – the legendary vocals of Percy Sledge mixed with classic Muscle Shoals production from Quin Ivy – all wrapped around a host of hip tunes that go way past the easy 60s soul hits! There's no knocking Wilson Pickett here – as his funky groove is still right on the money, set up in some sweet Muscle Shoals arrangements, at a level that's right up there with his first recordings for Atlantic Records! Probably the best early album that Patti Labelle ever recorded – and one that pushes way past the mix of girl group and pop material she'd been handling previously. The record begins with the killer cut "Dreamer", written by Dan Penn & Spooner Oldham – then it moves into ... LP, Vinyl record album

Happy Soul

Joe Tex is always great – but this Late 60s album is one of our favorites by him! Recorded in Memphis with a hip southern edge that makes Joe less of the meek guy he was on other albums, with more of a clever, confident style. Atlantic, 1966. Very Good-
Given her start as a rough-hewn child junkie R&B singer, it's hard to believe that Esther's the one singing these beautiful ballads and soul tracks!
