Hits Of The 50s (Japanese paper sleeve edition)
CD (Item 601333) RCA/Sony (Japan), 1960 — Condition: New Copy
A classic set of soulful vocals – one in which Sam Cooke sings hits of the 50s (as you'd guess from the title) – but not necessarily his own hits, more a selection of work by other artists – all given a really unique spin by Sam! And while other soul artists occasionally faltered with this sort of crossover project, the set only seems to help Cooke hit new heights – a mature sort of sound that really unlocks the whole power of his amazing voice – one that's got power not just on the soul and gospel fronts, but towards more sophisticated jazz and vocal ends too! Arrangements are by Glenn Osser, and the album's got a sweet approach that makes the tunes sound fresh again – as Sam lends his lovely vocals to tracks that include "Hey There", "Mona Lisa", "You You You", "The Great Pretender", and "Secret Love".
