A tremendous step forward for Dojo Cuts – a record that has the funky ensemble from down-under really finding their own groove – and coming across with a sound that's a lot tighter than before! We liked these guys from the start – but this time around, they really win us over even more – with a funky focus on the rhythms that really sets the record on fire from the very first note – and helps provide a wonderful platform for the all-soul vocals of Roxie Ray – who herself sounds a lot deeper and more mature than before! There's nothing we love more than watching a group grow up over the years – and this sweet second set definitely has Dojo Cuts doing just that – returning all our previous faith in them with even greater grooves. Titles include "El Entro", "Mamacita", "In This Moment", "Sonny's Strut", "I'd Rather Go Blind", "Take From Me", "What Do I Have To Do", and "Easy To Come Home".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

If the story is stripped down avant funk instrumentals with subtle stylistic twists and turns, it's a story worth telling – and that's what Clutchy Hopkins puts down on The Story Teller – an album that manages to be among his most raw and direct and his most adventurous at the same time! ... The most deeply soulful record we've ever heard from Shawn Lee – a massive tribute to the soul sounds of the 60s and 70s, served up with help from a host of hip singers who include Darondo, Nicole Willis, Karime Kendra, and Fanny Franklin! Lee's grooves are as funky as ever, but the ... LP, Vinyl record album

A massive look at the music of Greyboy – one that features classic cuts, previously unreleased tracks, and rare mixes as well! In Your Brain
Ubiquity, 2012. New Copy 2LP
The Monophonics definitely have a way of getting inside your brain – using a cosmic slop of fuzzy guitars and funky basslines to eat away your grey matter more than a maggot inside your cranium! Yet even past that heavy Funkadelic reference, they've also got a richer vibe too – ... LP, Vinyl record album

A really wonderful collaboration between Shawn Lee and Adrian Quesada – and a set that maybe goes further than a lot of recent work from the artists on their own! Maybe the coolest record we've ever heard from this mod British combo – a set that gets way past the easy retro references of previous albums, and goes for a vibe that's quite complicated, but still pretty darn groovy! A beautiful set from Mulgrew Miller – one of his greatest albums as a leader, and exemplary of the kind of underground jazz that was still bubbling strong in the 80s! A late date for Woody Shaw, but a great one too – a bit more straightforward than some of his more righteous albums of the 70s, but still proof that Shaw is easily one of the greatest trumpeters of his generation!
