CD (Item 482481) Mochilla, 2009 -- Condition: New Copy
The most sublime tribute to J Dilla we've seen to date -- a lovely, string-laden, sweetly soulful instrumental take on some of Dilla's signature beats and inspiration -- put together by producer Carlos Nino and with arrangements by Miguel Atwood-Ferguson for the always excellent Mochilla crew! The arrangements are impeccable -- working in a lot of orchestral soul instrumental soundscapes while keeping the feel tight throughout -- with lots of upright bass, cello, violin and viola in the max for maximum, emotionally gratifying string soul atmosphere -- plus Rhodes, other keys, and flute for the apt 70s astral sound that was so dear to Dilla. Includes elegant material that takes inspriation from the tracks "Nag Champa", one of Dilla's tracks from Common's Like Water For Chocolate, Tribe Called Quest's "Find A Way", Slum Village's "Fall In Love" and Dwight Trible & Life Force Trio's "Antiquity". At just 21+ minutes in length, this does leave you wanting more, but that's a minor complaint -- this is one of the most endearing Dilla tribute sets we've seen -- if not the most! © 1996-2009, Dusty Groove America, Inc. | |||||
