Cyrus Chestnut Quartet
CD (Item 604594) WJ3, 2012 — Condition: New Copy
A great indie label set from Cyrus Chestnut – one that really helps him get back to basics, in a cooking quartet that seems to push him even further than usual! The group features excellent tenor and soprano sax from Stacy Dillard – a younger player who's really got a strong voice on his instruments – a soulful way of blowing that echoes older generations, yet which is definitely his own bag too – as you'll hear from the very first notes on the set! In fact, we may well say that Dillard's the shining star of the set – but that's only because Chestnut's piano is so focused and confident that it does a great job without calling attention to itself. Rhythms are rock solid – and the group's completed by Dezron Douglas on bass and Willie Jones III on drums. Titles include "Mustard", "Dream", "Waltz For Gene & Carol", "Annibelle Cousins", and "Solace". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
