To Scratch Your Heart – Early Recordings From Istanbul (4LP set)Various
LP (Item 517340) Honest Jons (UK), 1910s/1920s/1930s — Condition: New Copy
Amazing music from the first few decades of the 20th Century – recordings made in Istanbul and a meld of cultures and traditions of the region – of Turks, Greeks, Armenians and Gypsies, Muslims, Christians and Jews. The music is a mix of classic and folk traditions, and most of the singers are hafiz – learned in musical readings of the Koran, but the music presented is not religious, improvised and emotional. Beautiful bygone string and voice music impeccably presented! Titles include "Setaraban Taksim" by Udi Neset Bey, "Murat Kenarinda" by Agyazar Efendi, "Rast Taksim" by Emin Taninmis Efendi, "Huseyni Taksim" by Neyzen Tevfik Efendi, ""Huzzam Taksim" by Tanburi Ibrahim Bey, "Yare Varsin" by Hafiz Cemal Bey, "Huseyni Kuzu" by Sevket Bey, "Hicaz Taksim" by Eyyubi Mustafa Sunar Bey and more. 34 tracks on in a 4LP boxset. © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
