A big one for Al Jarreau – a record that has a groove that's a bit more mainstream than some of Al's previous records, but which still leaves plenty of space for his amazing vocals! Jarreau's working again with producer Jay Graydon, who pitches the instrumentation towards more electric-sounding levels than before – more of the rhythms and keyboard parts you'd guess from the album's date, although still at a level that's warmer than some of Al's more commercial contemporaries. Titles include "Raging Waters", "Imagination", "Murphy's Law", "Tell Me", "After All", "High Crime", and "Let's Pretend".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

For You

Compelling early work from Prince – with a host of influences present on the surface, showing more clearly from whence he developed his unique sound. There's a bit of the record that reminds us of Shuggie Otis mid 70s output, and other tracks show that Prince had been paying attention to the ... LP, Vinyl record album

Warner, 1980. Very Good
A great album of mellow modern soul tracks recorded in Chaka's post-Rufus years! The record was produced by the great Arif Mardin, the man who made so many of the 70s Atlantic soul records work so well – and he handled Chaka's voice with a sweet sweet sound that you don't always get on her ... Warner, 1981. Very Good+
Classic Prince – an album that signaled an end to the first part of Prince's storied career, leaning heavily on his fascination with new wave, mixed with the r&b grooves and 70s funk of his earliest LPs. Prince is definitely in a transitional mode here, the easy politics of the punk era ... LP, Vinyl record album

One is one of their best albums, and has a nice hard funky sound that they didn't always match. The album includes the funky break classic track "Fencewalk", plus other groovers like "Hang Loose", and "Don't Mess with People". LP, Vinyl record album

Cerrone's definitely got the Golden Touch here – grooving long and strong, with that mix of cosmic club and warmer disco that made his 70s music so great!
