Sweet Sad & Salty – Recorded In Nashville 1962 to 1972
CD (Item 603745) Omni (Australia), 1960s/Early 70s — Condition: New Copy
Think you know everything you need to know about Burl Ives from Christmas shows and kiddie programs? Think again – because the Ives on this set is a completely different character altogether – a witty country music raconteur with quite an edge – often singing lyrics rich in biting political commentary, set to a gently jaunty groove that really helps Burl's vocals hit home! The tracks here were all recorded in Nashville, mostly in the 60s – but often bring in some wider musical influences, partly from Ives' other career in folk music – used as slight cultural references that really work well with the words of the tunes. As with other Omni compilations, this one's a treasure through and through – not just a reissue, but an act of re-discovery and re-positioning – filled with 31 great tracks, and some detailed notes as well. Titles include "Bury The Bottle With Me", "Mrs Johnson's Happiness Emporium", "Mean Mean Man", "That's All I Can Remember", "Hundred & Twenty Miles From Nowhere", "The Almighty Dollar Bill", "Lynching Party", and "Lower Forty". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
