Landlocked – The Downey StoryVarious
CD (Item 570820) Ace (UK), 1960s — Condition: New Copy
Groovy, pulpy 60s Cali sounds from the indie Downey Records roster – a slew of surf, rugged little vocal rockers, teary-eyed ballads, sax-flavored rhythm & blues and more great groovers – with numbers by The Chantays, The Rumblers, The Debonaires, The Nylons, The Last Word, The Revels, Margaret Williams, Bud & Kathy and more – including a cat named Lee Barry, aka Barry White! Its the first Downey comp we've ever seen, and it's a pretty great snapshot of the broad, sunny styles they traded in. A nice set from our friends at Ace UK! 24 tracks in all: "I Don't Need It" by Lee Barry/Barry White, "Pipeline" by The Chantays, "That Kind Of Girl" by Craig & Michael, "Jerk Baby Jerk" by Carle Burnett & The Hustlers, "Penetration" by Ed Burkey, "Comanche" by The Revels, "The Bug" by Rivieres and many more. Includes some previously unissued numbers, too. © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
