Wonderful work from the later years of Moreira Da Silva – a quartet of albums recorded for the Odeon label at the end of the 50s, and which really show Da Silva hitting a mature sort of stride! The timing was perfect for these sets – as improved studio techniques in Brazil really brought a lot out of the rootsier samba modes that Da Silva had been working in for years – updating the grooves with some contemporary arrangements that flesh things out nicely, while still leaving a lot of upfront space for Moreira's vocals! There's a depth here that a singer wouldn't have had 20 years before – and the records sparkle with Da Silva's rich presentation of the material. Some of the CDs features bonus tracks, which makes the package even more appealing – and all titles have been remastered, and presented with original artwork.  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

A very groovy group from Brazil – swinging with a mixed male/female harmony sound that's a lot like the Swingle Singers! Unlike the Swingles, though, Quarteto Forma sing pop hits of their day – both American and Brazilian ones – in a dreamy, jazzy, easy, and floating style that's ... CD

Excellent work from Ivan Lins' best period! The record captures him at a perfect point – when he was honing his songwriting to an incredibly precise style that would match the best work of Milton Nascimento or Lo Borges, but before he's gotten a bit too slickly produced. This record ... CD

Fantastic early work from Tania Maria! This record is one of her first – and it's a beautiful batch of bossa and jazzy tracks, with larger orchestrations by Geraldo Vespar, and lots of nice organ and keyboard work. Maria's voice is very nice, and without the polish of later recordings ... CD

A pretty sweet album by Elis Regina – and one of the last she ever did! The arrangements have a bit more of an electric jazz sound than usual – but they actually give her voice a nice sound, and create some nice lush soulful tracks that have a very sweet sound. Cesar Mariano is still ... CD

One of Airto's most polished records, and an album that we've really grown to love over the years! There's a pretty strong modern soul/R&B component to the album – but at the core, there's still a strong feeling for Brazilian rhythms, and the record's got a wonderfully warm Brazilian ... CD
