Peau D'Ane (aka Donkey Skin)
CD (Item 584394) Play Time (France), 1970 — Condition: New Copy
A wonderful soundtrack from Michel Legrand – often overlooked in comparison to some of his bigger scores of the 60s – but like some of those, a key cinematic collaboration with director Jacques Demy! The film was issued in the states with the title Donkey Skin – and features a beautiful fantasy story with Catherine Deneuve in the lead – quite dark at points, but really redeemed by Legrand's music! There's a richer orchestral feel here than some of his jazz works – and the sound is extremely haunting – with a main theme that we totally love, which recurs a lot in sweet sing-song brilliance. Most tracks are original, but a few have vocals by Legrand, Christine Legrand, and Isabelle Aubret. The package is also loaded with bonus cuts – including other interpretations of the material – and a nice booklet with photos and notes galore! © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
