A soundtrack for a very silly movie – and one of the oddest albums ever recorded by the great Paul Williams – who both sings and stars in the movie as the phantom in the title! The tunes have a surprisingly heartfelt quality that really comes out when you hear them away from the movie – not nearly as future-shocky, and instead quite personal, with this sense of loneliness and pathos that we love in Paul's other work of the time. The backings are great – mixing Williams' usual smooth LA A&M sound with some slight glam touches – and titles include "Phantom's Theme", "Upholstery", "Goodbye Eddie Goodbye", "Somebody Super Like You", "Old Souls", and "Faust". (White label promo. Cover has a cutout hole, some wear, and promo and factory stickers.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

A&M, 1974. Near Mint-
That's Paul Williams, lost amidst the whiteness of the cover – kind of fuzzy around the edges, just like the warm feelings in his music! Bethlehem, 1954. Good+
Great early work from Carmen McRae – small combo, jazzy, and a nicely different set than some of her other work of the 50s! Backings are by two groups – one headed by accordionist Mat Mathews, the other by saxophonist Tony Scott – both quartets, and both of them working with a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Best Of Gil Scott-Heron
Arista, 1984. Sealed
A nice best-of collection of Gil's work on Arista – issued in the 80s, with Gil looking terrible in a "Members Only" kind of way on the cover, and with the extra new track "Re-Ron", an electro track about Ronald Reagan! Still, there's more than enough nice moments – ... LP, Vinyl record album
