LP, Vinyl record album

4.60 38

Jack Jones sings, and beautifully too – on the kind of mellow album that few male singers made so well in the 60s! The set's got a great mix of jazz sensibility and straighter vocal singing – backed by light strings from Ralph Carmichael, but also a bit of tinkling piano from Doug Talbert – in a mode that floats easily with Jones' tremendous vocals. There's a depth here that's really wonderful – a quality that re-ignites even familiar tunes, but which sounds especially great on a few of the album's lesser-known numbers. Tracks include "I Don't Care Much", "Somewhere There's Someone", "Love After Midnight", "Somewhere My Love", "The Shining Sea", "A Day In The Life Of A Fool", and "The Face I Love". (Cover has a small cutout mark.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Live At Montreux
Arista, 1978. Very Good+
Tightly funky work from Ben Sidran – arguably one of his best albums for Arista, thanks to a strong lineup of players, and the open-ended relaxed setting of Montreux!
