New Saxes Galore – Melody In Blue
CD (Item 587785) Dragon (Sweden), 1993 — Condition: New Copy
Beautiful later work from Swedish jazz musician Nils Lindberg – a pianist by trade, but working here with a group that's heavy on the saxes – arranged here in a flurry of wonderful tones and sounds! Lindberg's probably best known here for his early modern recordings of the 50s and 60s, but this 90s session proves that he never stopped growing as an artist – and shows an amazing talent for both composition and arrangement, of the sort you'd normally expect from a reedman! The group features Anders Paulsson, Johan Horlen, Joakim Milder, Krister Andersson, and Charlie Malmberg on a variety of saxes – moving in a way that's wonderfully fresh – hardly a copycat of American 50s modes, or even other Swedish experiments – and instead, opening up with a sound that's extremely contemporary, especially in the way the octet still maintains a relatively lean feel, with lots of room for individual voices. Titles include "For Absent Friends", "In A Latin American Way", "Melody In Blue", "Blues In Tempo Presto", "Vall-Lat", "Vals Fran Enviken", and "Blue Bop". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
