CD (Item 548309) MPS (Germany), 1969 — Condition: New Copy
One of the most ambitious albums ever recorded by the legendary Clarke Boland Big Band – a smoking set that's based around a four-part suite composed by co-leader Francy Boland – easily one of his most compelling pieces ever, and as hard-swinging as it is complicated! The four movements of the suite all feature short segments named after the dominant soloists – a killer lineup that includes Sahib Shihab, Tony Coe, Ronnie Scott, Johnny Griffin, and Derek Humble on reeds; Benny Bailey, Dusky Goykovich, Idrees Sulieman, and Jimmy Deuchar on trumpets; Ake Persson and Nat Peck on trombones, and Fats Sadi on vibes – all players with a great ability to work as part of the cohesive larger ensemble, then step out brilliantly on their own! There's a sense of color, joy, and life here that goes beyond even some of the other great CBBB albums of the time – a true testament to the unique genius of the ensemble. Titles include "Vortographs", "Solarisation", "Panchromatic", and "Macrographic". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
