Hearing Is Believing – The Jack Nitzsche Story 1962 to 1979Various
CD (Item 377775) Ace (UK), 1960s/1970s — Condition: New Copy
The first-ever comprehensive look at the mighty talents of Jack Nitzsche – the arranger, songwriter, and producer who was part of the holy trinity of 60s pop, with a well-deserved place next to Brian Wilson and Phil Spector! Nitzsche first got his start working in the Spector mode – using arrangements that were full, rich, and rhythmic – building a wall of sound in the studio, and rolling around a strong electric bassline to create a "stepping" groove that packed a punch even on simpler pop numbers. The Nitzsche mode often used very full orchestrations behind the singer – not in a way that was syrupy or sleepy, but which really helped to push the full power of the vocals. As proof of that strength, the collection features work from a really wide wide range of artists – voices that you'd never expect to hear on one collection, but who come together beautifully under the godlike hands of Nitzsche. And although the title might imply that the work in the collection is from the 70s, there's really only a handful of tunes from later years, as 22 of the set's 26 numbers are from 1970 or earlier. Titles include "The Heart Of Juliet Jones" by Garry Bonner, "Wild Life's In Season" by Lou Christie, "I Could Be So Good To You" by Don & The Goodtimers, "Cheryl's Goin Home" by Bob Lind, "Rumble" by Jack Nitzsche, "Move Over Darling" by Doris Day, "Not For Me" by Bobby Darin, "Kick That Little Foot Sally Ann" by Round Robin, "Always Waitin" by The Paris Sisters, "Walk With A Winner" by Gene McDaniels, "Ashes The Rain & I" by The James Gang, "Sister Morphine" by Marianne Faithfull, and "It Happens Every Time" by Tim Buckley. © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
