CD (Item 597965) Intrada, 1963/1999 — Condition: New Copy

Bernard Herrmann may be best known for his film scores to "classy" film of decades gone by, but we also love his work for some of Ray Harryhausen's amazing special effects films – like this wonderful early 60s telling of Jason & The Argonauts! Herrman's keen ear for scoring really elevates the whole film – giving it a solid substance that's really unexpected – and which makes Harryhausen's early film tricks resonate even more strongly with their accompaniment. And away from the film, as on this CD, the music's elevated to something even higher – almost a modern work of symphonic genius – filled with rich colors and illustrative passages that stand brilliantly on their own – scored by Herrmann with just a slight touch of the exotic, and performed here by Bruce Broughton & The Sinfonia Of London with excellent sound. The CD features 29 short tracks from the film score – with titles that include "Departure", "Medea's Ship", "Hera's Effigy", "Mount Olympus", "The Prophesy/The Battle", and "The Olympic Games".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
