Martha & Yoshiko – What Is This Thing Called Life
CD (Item 614726) King (Japan), 1976 — Condition: New Copy
Way more than just a standard jazz vocal set – thanks to inventive arrangements from an acoustic combo – one who backs up singer Martha Miyake in ways that really let her take off! There's a subtle grace to the instrumentation – one that really supports the lead role of the singer, but helps shape all the sound around her, too – with bits of tenor or flute that occasionally underscore more emotive passages, and piano lines that move way past the obvious, even on some standards – to keep things from ever sounding too familiar. Miyake's got a rich, deep vocal style that's mighty nice – and titles include "Too Young Again"," Jesse", "The Thrill Is Gone", "When I Fall In Love", and "Alright Ok You Win". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
