Magical music from Carmen Lundy – easily one of our favorite female jazz singers ever – and for good reason, given albums like this! The set's a warmly acoustic effort, but one that's never staid or sleepy – no overdone standards, nor fake torchy modes – and instead always in that unique space that Lundy's been carving out for the past few decades – a bold sound, even when gentle, with strong elements of soul at times, but never in a slick R&B-styled way. The instrumentation is beautifully balanced – with tremendous basslines from brother Curtis Lundy, alongside piano, Fender Rhodes, guitar, and trombone from Steve Turre.
