Toshiko (Japanese paper sleeve edition)
CD (Item 474189) Storyville/Muzak (Japan), 1956 — Condition: New Copy
One of the earliest albums ever from Toshiko Akioshi – recorded during her young years in the US while studying at the Berklee School Of Music in the US! Despite her age, though, Toshiko's already at the top of her game here – working in an enigmatic piano style that mixes bop inspiration with darker inflections – all in a sound that's somewhat more straightforward than her later work, and almost more captivating too! The group features bass from Paul Chambers and drums by Ed Thigpen and Paul Chambers – both players who bring a lot to the set – and titles include a fair bit of original compositions by Toshiko, showing her key skills as a composer even at this early age. Titles include "Blues For Toshiko", "Kyo Shu", "Homework", "Manhattan Address", "Between Me & Myself", and "Sunday Afternoon". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
