Hi-Rhythm Sessions – Unreleased Memphis Recordings 1972
LP (Item 465388) Soul Tay Shus, 1972 — Condition: New Copy
Rare Memphis funk from Gene Anderson – an already-obscure singer who recorded a handful of singles for Westbound and Hi Records – represented here by a batch of previously unissued material! Backings here are by the Hi Rhythm section and The Memphis Horns, but the tracks themselves have a bit more of an edge than regular Hi material – a lot more emphasis on funk at the bottom than soul on the top, with Gene's vocals nicely shouting, calling, and vamping along with the grooves on all tunes! A few cuts feature backing vocals from Chalmers & Rhodes, and the album features both instrumental and vocal versions of 5 different songs – split into a side apiece for the record! Titles include "Funky Soul Music", "Freaky Touch", "I Want It", "It's You Baby", and "Joy". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
