Incredible! Although the first album by Balanco had a definite Italian bossa sound (which was very popular in their acid jazz scene a few years ago), this great second album by the group breaks into whole new territory – like French and Italian soundtrack grooves, particularly in the vein of Ennio Morricone (who they covered on their first LP) and the great Francis Lai! The style of the group's changed slightly – and they've developed this amazing keyboard, bass, and vocals sound that's very similar to the instrumentation used in some of Morricone's best 70's work. Titles include "The Bachelor Waltz", "Mrs. Beat", "The Girl From Montenegro", "Dreamflight", "Man & A Woman", and "Bossa Memorandum". One of our favorites recently – and a another delight from the Schema label!  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Schema (Italy), 2013. New Copy
A killer set from Finnish trumpet genius Jukka Eskola – a bossa-styled outing with a sweet 60s groove – but one that's quite different from his earlier hardbop recordings! The "orquesta" in the group is mostly just a string quartet – but they shade in spaces wonderfully ... CD

Irma (Italy), 2013. New Copy
Mighty keyboards from Francesco Gazzara – easily one of our favorite Irma Records artists from years back – still sounding pretty darn great here in a nicely mature setting! The album's got a bit of the bossa promised in the title, but also has a wider-ranging groove too – echoes ... CD

Victor (Japan), 2013. New Copy
A very cool EP from the mighty Soil & Pimp Sessions – and a set that has the group stepping into a whole new realm of music! The fierce horns and sharp jazzy energy of the combo is still at the core here – but the music takes on a bit more of a classic mode, too – almost a ... CD

Occult Symphonic
R2 (UK), 2010. New Copy
A collection of spiritual house tracks from the contemporary underground – all picked and mixed by Osunlade, all with a feel that's quite similar to his own Yoruba Records work! Beats are deep and usually very bassy – which gives the music a warm, earthy style right from the start ... CD
