Take One/Dance To The TV Themes
CD (Item 578793) Vocalion (UK), 1963/1965 — Condition: New Copy
Two groovy sets from arranger Steve Race – both recorded in mid-60s London! Take One features Steve's takes on a variety of popular tunes – both from films and from pop – handled with a dynamic energy that's part bachelor pad swing, part sound library groove – but the early UK variety! Instrumentation is often quite full, but never overdone – and there's often a nice mix of percussion and some standout charts that really keep things creative. Titles include "Lawrence Of Arabia", "Hard Day's Night", "James Bond Theme", "Moon River", "Maria", "On Green Dolphin Street", and "Days Of Wine & Roses". Dance To The TV Themes is particularly tuned to the UK side of the small screen of the 60s – although the set also features a few choice American numbers too! Things are very much in the best mode of this sort of set from the US – a bit of Mancini, or Nelson Riddle – and their trademark blend of jazz with larger charts – and players on the date include Tubby Hayes on tenor and Johnny Scott on flute, both of whom get to solo a bit! Titles include "Z Cars", "Man Of The World", "Naked City", "Startime", "Route 66", "Willow Waltz", "Coronation Street", and "Maigret". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
