A wonderful look at the huge legacy of Stax Records – a two hour documentary that's filled with rare performances, home movies, and even a few new recordings – all narrated by Samuel Jackson, and directed by the team of Robert Gordon and Morgan Neville! The film is a great visual counterpart to the music of Stax, and it tells the unique story of the label, its evolution, and eventual collapse to industry and internal pressures in the 70s. And sure, it's part of Concord's big re-revival of the imprint, but they've done a pretty darn good job of it – and it's sure nice to have a package like this to offset all the years of dodgy video on the market that most of us needed to survive on!
