Really unique sounds from Zaiko Langa Langa -- a 70s combo from Zaire, with a sound that's a fair bit leaner than some of their contemporaries! The main sounds here come from vocals, guitars, and percussion -- no added horns at all, and even the rhythms are pretty spare too -- leaving most of the main groove to come from the complex interplay of the guitar lines! The sound is bright, but never slick or too upbeat -- and the vocals weave in and out of the guitars with their own sort of complexity too -- lots of changes in range and tone, which almost creates an instrumental vibe at times.
