Dave Baby Cortez With Lonnie Youngblood & His Bloodhounds

LP (Item 593763) Norton, 2011 — Condition: New Copy

A new record from some funky soul legends! We have no idea why soul, R&B & rock organ legend Dave Baby Cortez didn't make a record for nearly 40 years, but this energetic set with one-time Hendrix sax player Lonnie Youngblood and his group, plus multi-instrumentalist Mick Collins in the band and sitting in the production chair is a real win! It’s a great set of instrumentals that kind of serves as tour of hard-charging rock, soul & R&B styles of the late 50s through the 60s – played with relish by a pioneering figure. His status as an innovator keeps this from being a nostalgia trip – as do the heated, heavy performances of the players. Titles include "The Lemon Drop", "Sammy Sue", "Suki Bomb", "Bumper Cars", "Rolling Out", "Hot Cakes", "Soul Rub" and more.  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
