Music Is My Medicine
LP (Item 482279) Ubiquity, 2009 — Condition: New Copy
A slightly different flavor than usual from Clutchy Hopkins – and another great batch of cuts from the enigmatic beatmaker! This set's supposedly done in collaboration with Lord Kenjamin – an equally enigmatic figure, with a Caribbean-styled name – and the record's definitely got some dubbier overtones than usual – occasional Kingston sounds that filter into the mix, and create some fresh new elements alongside Clutchy's moody rhythms. As with other Hopkins records, the overall feel is nice and laidback – never the kind of beats that are aching to be used for hip hop production, but also not the kind of too-lazy material that often hides under a downtempo moniker – just right-on rhythms that respect the sounds of their roots, but trim things down a bit too. Titles include "Lord Kenji", "Doty's Leslie", "Shadowfish", "Turtle Rock", "Heavy Hands", "Cold & Wet", "Brother John", and "The Old Spot". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
