Plenty happenin' here – a wealth of boogaloo grooves, mad Latin jazz riffs, and lots lots more – all served up on a platter that's easily one of the most cooking ever from trumpeter Willie Rodriguez! Like other releases on the Fonseca label, there's a nicely messed-up groove going on – a style that easily shifts between different Latin modes in search of the rawest sound possible – without any thought of mainstream convention, or the sort of straighter-laced sounds that might have played with the suburban crowds. Willie's band is clearly nice and youthful, and more than willing to follow his leadership – working equally well on both the English and Spanish language tunes on the set. Titles include "Boogaloo Hay", "Sansuyo", "Mi Guajira", "Mi Shingaling", "The Clock", "What You Want Is Boogaloo", "7th Ave Train", and the very tasty "Descarga El Bravo"!  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Fonseca/Andale, Mid 60s. New Copy (reissue)
Cuba descara – played American style! The set's a killer bit of Latin jazz from the New York scene of the 60s – a really brilliant effort headed up by Osvaldo Chihuahua Martinez – who plays both timbale and guiro – in a crack lineup that also features Chocolate Armenteros ... LP, Vinyl record album

Jazz Espagnole
Alegre, 1960. New Copy (reissue)
A masterpiece of Latin jazz – and one of the truest expressions of the genre we can think of! The album's quite unique, especially for the time – a spare, stripped-down presentation of Latin-influenced jazz – a sound that has its roots in the cubop experiments of a decade before, ... Bwana
Caytronics, 1972. New Copy (reissue)
An insanely wonderful bit of Latin funk! The groove is super heavy, and falls somewhere in between NuYorican soul and Chicano Power rock – with a sound that's pretty close to Black Sugar, but a little bit more psychedelic, due to the heavy guitars and keyboards in the grooves. Hard congas ... LP, Vinyl record album

Bitter Acid
Mainstream, 1967. New Copy (reissue)
A killer album of hard instrumental Latin soul tracks – one of the few albums ever done by funky reed player Mauricio Smith! On the set, Smith plays flute, alto, and soprano sax – and the record's filled with short little groovers that have a nice choppy sound, and lots of heavy conga ... LP, Vinyl record album

United Artists, Mid 60s. New Copy (reissue)
A tight little Machito album from the 60s – produced by Leroy Holmes, and done with a bit more punch than some of his other records from the time! The format's similar to other Machito sessions – in that some tracks have Machtio singing with a larger backing group, and others focus on ... LP, Vinyl record album

Good Move
Blue Note, 1963. New Copy (reissue)
Freddie Roach always makes a good move on his Blue Note sessions – going for a lean and tight style on the organ that never fails to please! On this set, he's working with a mixed group of hardbop and soul jazz players that include Blue Mitchell, Hank Mobley, Eddie Wright, and Clarence ... LP, Vinyl record album

Lift Your Spirit
Interscope, 2014. New Copy
Real spirit-lifting sounds from Aloe Blacc – a set that starts with a sense of righteousness right on the very first track – almost a gospel sense of spirit, mixed with Aloe's wonderfully secular groove! The beats are lean, the vocals are clean, and the record's got a tight snap all ... LP, Vinyl record album
