Ben Webster In A Mellotone

CD (Item 604607) Candid (UK), 1965 — Condition: New Copy

A rare London performance from Ben Webster – recorded late in his life, with a British trio backing him up! The tunes are nice and long, and Webster's got that easy-going tone we love from these later years – one that's really dripping with soul, and which almost seems to have more feeling than some of Ben's recordings from previous decades – a slight world-weary quality that really comes through in his sound. The rhythm section are clearly giving the main star plenty of room, but still hold their own – and the group features Alan Branscombe on piano, Lennie Bush on bass, and Jackie Dougan on drums – on titles that include "In A Mellotone", "Perdido", "Stardust", "C Jam Blues", "Someone To Watch Over Me", "Ben's Blues", and "Ben's Theme Tune" – plus a short interview with Webster at the end!  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
