Joystone
CD (Item 584954) Sakho/Ubiquity, 2007 — Condition: Used
The greatest work to date from Jimi Tenor – a set of tracks that really breaks from his earlier music, and transports him back to the righteous years of 70s soul jazz! Jimi's working here with the ultra-hip Kabu Kabu ensemble – a large collective of players that includes horns from members of the Five Corners Quintet, lots of added percussion, and electronics and effects from Didier – who also produced the album with a really dark and edgey sound! The music is incredible – filled with warmth and imagination, and none of the too-cold notes of Tenor's earlier work – the long-awaited flowering of the truly soulful inspiration we always knew he had in his music, but which has never seen the light of day this strongly before! Jimi sings, plays flute, sax, and keyboards – and the album's got a sound that's almost like a 21st century update of work on the Strata East or Black Jazz labels. Titles include "Hot Baby", "Bedroom Eyes", "Anywhere Anytime", "Green Grass", "Hermetic Man", "Sunrise", "Dede", "Smoking", "Love Is The Only God", "Horror Water", and "Ariane". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
