CD (Item 611879) Tzadik, 2012 — Condition: New Copy

A great journey into music by John Zorn – part of his increasingly creative output of recorded work in recent years – and a great illustration of some of his more meditative qualities! The album's a new chapter in his Moonchild project – and like the others, its got a spiritual feel that really fits the cover and title, and their historical reference too. Yet at another level, the execution is very fresh, and very Zorn too – a weird mix of Terry Riley-like organ from John Medeski, punchy rhythms from Trevor Dunn on bass and Joey Barron on drums, and these weird vocals from Mike Patton – sometimes haunting chants, other times more forceful exclamations! Zorn composed and directed – and titles include "Libera Me", "Recordatio", "Prophetic Souls", "Murder Of The Magicians", "Evocation Of Baphomet", and "Templi Secretum".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
