Dukey Treats
CD (Item 476169) Heads Up, 2008 — Condition: New Copy
Dukey Treats are funky treats from the legendary George Duke – kind of a late return to funky sounds from the legendary keys & jazzy soul synth guru – with plenty of clean and lean grooves, too! George is on Rhodes, clavinet, synths and some spare vocal furnishings on this set – clearly setting out to have a laidback, funky good time, without betraying is reputation as an architect of fusiony soul jazz. The players are really great and they do a terrific job on both the intergalactic funk throwbacks and the smoothed out numbers – with percussion by Sheila E, Jef Lee Johnson on tightly funky bass, a sweet trio of female vocalists and a killer horn section – with guest appearances by Wah Wah Watson and others. There's a lot of playful interaction by the group in the mix, and if the record isn't milestone from Duke, it's an endearingly joyful one! Titles include loose, funky opener "Everyday Hero", the smooth soul jam "I Tried To Tell You", "A Fonk Tail", "Dukey Treats", "Listen Baby", "Mercy", "Right On Time", "Sudan", "Are You Ready", "Images Of Us" and more.
