A great live date from Batacumbele – a double-length album that really lets the group open up, stretch out, and do their thing! Given that Batacumbele's all about complicating the percussion patterns of their rhythms, the album's live, extended jams are perfect for demonstrating their best musical skills – a rich array of sounds on congas, timbales, bata, bongos, and other percussion instruments – providing the core grooves for instrumentation on keyboards, trumpets, tenor, and trombone! Most tracks have some sort of vocals, but the focus is often mostly on the instrumentation – and titles include "May Day", "Elegua", "Muevete", "La Tia", "Danzonete", "Calabo Y Bambu", "Hot Blood", and "Batacumbele Te Saluda".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Brilliant brown-eyed soul from Ray Camacho – an artist who was previously known for more border-styled work with his Teardrops band, but who steps out here with a surprisingly great blend of electric jazz and boogie! The approach is wonderful – a real re-direction of Ray's earlier ... CD

Funky fusion with plenty of Latin touches – a really compelling set from the Nicaraguan scene of the 70s! The album's got the same criss-crossing of influences you'd hear in some of the best Bay Area projects of this type – no surprise since Jose Chepito Areas is a key member of the ... CD
