Walk Love Sleep
CD (Item 635764) Smalltown Supersound (Sweden), 2012 — Condition: New Copy
A great testament to the continued relationship between German reedman Peter Brotzmann and the Chicago underground jazz scene – summed up perfectly in this surprisingly long-running Chicago Tentet – a group that not only features Brotzmann and key Windy City musicians, but also some folks from other scenes who frequently interact in our fair town! Brotzmann's got this majestic lead on the record – blowing boldly on tenor, alto, b flat clarinet, and tarogato – and getting great reed accompaniment from Ken Vandermark, Mats Gustafsson, and Joe McPhee – alongside trombones from Jeb Bishop and Johannes Bauer, tuba from Per Ake Holmlander, cello and electronics from Fred Lonberg Holm, bass from Kent Kessler, and double drums from Michael Zerang and Paal Nilssen-Love. All of these players are very familiar with each other, and really work wonderfully here – moving through three long improvised passages, all performed live, but with a cohesion that's amazing – even more so when you consider how global the unit actually is. Titles include "To Walk In", "To Love In", and "To Sleep In". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
