Beginning Of The Second Earth
LP (Item 614031) Sagittarius (Italy), 1980 — Condition: New Copy
Deep deep work from Idris Ackamoor and his Cultural Odyssey group – a combo that's even more farther-reaching than his famous Pyramids ensemble – recorded here in a rare San Francisco performance in 1980! The group do a great job of mixing African roots with creative jazz expression – in a mode that's a bit like the Art Ensemble Of Chicago at their best – with with even sharper edges overall, and a much more forceful sound too! The horn solos are especially searing – not just Ackamoor's alto and tenor, but also the trumpet of Rasul Siddik – and there's also plenty of great percussion – including balafon and thumb piano from Idris himself. Titles include "Look Into Yourself", "The Temple Garden", "Another Carnival", and the extended "Beginning Of The Second Earth Suite". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
