A split set of soundtracks – both penned for films directed by Jean-Louis Bertuccelli! Richard Rodney Bennett really charms us with his score for L'Imprecateur – easily one of his most carefully creative film pieces of the 70s – and really nicely balanced between space and sound, in ways that have the subtle drama of the film welling up beautifully as the music unfolds! The instrumentals from the film are presented in two smaller "suites" – with tracks that include "New York", "Le Bus", "Ecoute", "La Vueve", "Le Cafe", "Retour A La Lumiere", and "L'Accident". Next is Gabriel Yared's music for Interdit Aus Moins De 13 Ans – written five years after Bennett's score, but done with a similarly evocative feel! Instrumentation has a bit of an 80s quality at times – but not in a cheesy way – more in the sonically sensitive qualities that you might find in a Wim Wenders score of the decade.
