Just when you thought New Orleans couldn't get any funkier – in rolls volume 3 of this excellent series! The overall sound here is much more in the 70s funk mode than previous volumes – still nice and chunky on the rhythms, and in a definite New Orleans groove – but done with a style that's a bit badder and more righteous than the 60s – making for a really killer set overall! The set also really pushes past the obvious, and includes some totally great tunes that were either never released, or which only saw the light of day as small singles back in the day. Titles include "Funky Birthday" by Bobby McLaughlin, "My Mind Keeps Playing Tricks On Me" by Larry Hamilton, "You Don't Know How To Turn Me On" by Decon John, "The Bump" by Tyrone Chestnut with the Funky Moon Band, "Reborn" by Marilyn Barbarin, "Love Power" by The Barons, "Just Love Me" by Sam Henry, and "Superjock" by Reuben Bell. 15 cuts in all – a few by unknown singers! © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
