Rules Of Freedom
CD (Item 560794) Polydor (France), 1967 — Condition: New Copy
One of the greatest records ever recorded by Nathan Davis – an incredibly soulful reed player who's one of our favorite jazz artists ever! This one was cut in Paris in 1967 – a few years after his straighter sides for Saba/MPS, and a few years before his more funky and spiritual albums in the US. The album's a gem – reeling in a modal Coltrane-ish mode that is perfect for Davis' searching style on soprano and tenor sax. Hampton Hawes, Jimmy Garrison, and Art Taylor make up the rest of the group – and under Davis' leadership, they play some of their best work of the 60s, coming together like a finely-honed group that we'd rank right up there with Coltrane's classic quartet. A true gem, and proof that Davis is one of the undisputed jazz masters of the 60s. Titles include "Mandingo's Pad", "Ahali The Painter", "A5", and "Love Is Freedom". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
