Compelling work from Egberto Gismonti – working here in a largely electronic basis, and using a host of keyboards to weave complicated soundscapes that are a great extension of his arrangements from the early and mid 70s! By that, we mean the sound is nicely complicated at points, yet still soars with a heck of a lot of spirit – that unique blend of Brazilian roots, jazz fusion, and more complicated expressive modes that made Gismonti one of the best talents of his generation on the Brazilian scene! The production comes through really well for the keyboards – none of those too-tinny styles that could mar American efforts like this of the time – and titles include "Palacio De Espelhos", "Sagracao", "Assum", "Fado", "Carnaval De Rua", "2 Violes", and "Para John E Paco".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Beautiful airy bossa! This album's a 1964 session of straight piano bossa tracks by Deodato, with production by Roberto Quartin – and a sound that's a lot more mellow and fragile than his other records from the time! Deodato is amazingly restrained in his playing, and sticks to only piano ... CD

Insanely great sounds from the legendary Tim Maia – easily the most soulful singer in 70s Brazil, and an artist with a heck of a strong ear for funk, too! The music here is an incredible hybrid of American soul and Brazilian elements – especially since some lyrics are in English – ... CD

A Brazilian underground classic from the early 70s – mindblowing work that mixes heavy percussion with lots of guitar – in a style that's samba soul one minute, but heavier rock the next! There's a bit of a Jorge Ben influence going on at times – particularly in the way the ... CD
