CD (Item 413805) MPS (Germany), 1966/1967/1970 -- Condition: New Copy

Amazing work from guitarist Baden Powell -- 4 incredible albums for the MPS label, each of which set a new standard for his music! The albums include Tristeza On Guitar, Poema On Guitar, Canto On Guitar, and Images On Guitar -- each unique in their own way, and together an incredible portrait of Powell's mighty talents -- recorded by the European label with a sound that's quite different than his earlier work in Brazil! Tristeza and Poema are both from the late 60s, and have a somewhat spare approach -- one in keeping with the title promises of sadness and poetry, both of which come through strongly in Powell's acoustic work on guitar, plus some nice use of flute on some of the tracks. Canto On Guitar expands the sound a bit more -- with Powell adding in his own vocals on a few numbers, alongside a nice mix of rootsy Brazilian percussion in echoey space to create a dark feel for the record. Images is even more amazing, and features not only more vocals from Baden, but also some singing from Janine De Waleyne, an amazing European partner who graced some of Powell's best 70s sessions. The 2CD set features a whopping 34 tracks in all -- all titles from the albums, including "Blues A Volante", "Petite Waltz", "Canto", "E De Lei", "Samba Em Preludio", "Tristeza", "Canto A Xango", "Round Midnight", "Consolacao", "Samba Triste", "Euridice", and "Reza".  © 1996-2009, Dusty Groove America, Inc.
