Spiritual, soulful, and oh, so beautiful! This record captures Earth Wind & Fire at a perfect transition moment – when they've still got some of their avant jazz roots, but are leaning towards the smooth soulful funk sound that put them on the charts a few years later. The whole thing's a wonderful mix of spiritualism and funky jazz – and it includes their massive cover of "Mighty Mighty", plus a lot of tracks with cool instrumentation, like "Kalimba Story", "Drum Song", and "Caribou". Great jazzy groovers, all of them! Contains 4 previously unissued tracks – "Ain't No Harm To Moan", "Step's Tune", "Dreams", and "Fair But So Uncool (Walkin In N'Awlins mix)".  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

Spirit (expanded edition)
Columbia, 1976. New Copy
A big hit for the group – and a great album of smooth funky soul! Spirit is a perfect example of the way that Earth Wind & Fire could tighten things up, yet still keep them real – holding onto the deeply spiritual side that first made them great – but also focusing their ... CD

Gratitude
Columbia, 1975. New Copy
Great stuff! Although a live album, Gratitude is one of Earth Wind & Fire's greatest from the mid 70s – a very tight batch of grooves that proves that Maurice White & Co. could play just as well on stage as they could in the studio – and the noise of the crowd going wild is ... CD

Hot Line/Legacy, Late 60s. New Copy
Al Green's first LP – with a very different feel than his later work on Hi! The record's got a harder southern soul groove – almost in a Wilson Pickett/Arthur Conley mode, but with some sweeter elements in the backing. Al's voice is still incredible, although different than later, in ... CD

RCA, Early 60s. New Copy
A self-titled set that features a nice batch of lesser-known gems from Sam Cooke's early 60s years on RCA! Lots of the material here is a nice contrast to some of the hit-heavy Cooke sets on the market – not that those aren't great, but it's just good to hear some of the other sides of Sam's ... CD

Buddah, Early 70s. New Copy
Classic work by Barbara Mason – easily some of her best recordings, cut for Buddah Records during the early 70s, with production work by soul luminaries Curtis Mayfield and Don Davis. Although Barbara began as a "little girl" singer, these sides show her maturing nicely – ... CD

A killer album of crossover soul from the mid 70s – one that dropped like a bomb when it hit, and gave this UK group a number of big hits in America! Keyboardist Rod Temperton wrote all the tracks on the album – and he's got keen talent for both funky numbers and ballads. If soul ... CD

A different sound than the Manhattans of the 70s – but a set that's still got some wonderful harmonies throughout! The production has a modern sort of 80s crackle – more beats and keyboards than before, but also some standout acapella moments that hearken back to an old school style of ... CD

An even leaner groove than usual for Billy Griffin – a set that makes great use of 80s keyboards and basslines, which turn out to be a great fit for Griffin's wonderful voice! Billy's got this sharp, uncluttered style of singing – a mode first forged as the lead for The Miracles, then ... CD
