Funkshone 2
LP (Item 604872) Skyline (UK), 2012 — Condition: New Copy
There's a shining mix of funk and soul going on here in the band's second album – arguably even better than the first! Funkshone work in the same territory as other deep funk combos of today, yet somehow find a slightly different space as well – maybe using the studio just a bit more to expand their sound – although never in ways that sound too commercial, too slick, or too gimmicky! Instead, they thoughtfully work their horn parts together with an ear towards complicating things up slightly in the mixes – and bring in some occasional string passages and other instrumentation – to keep things from just sounding like some straight funky combo, and almost going more into a 70s blacksploitation soundtrack style at times! A few cuts feature vocals, but the main groove is instrumental – with totally tight drums, sweet horns and keyboards, and some especially great flute lines – played by Kaidi Tatham! Titles include "Take Down", "Persuasion", "Dirty Money", "Heaven Shine", "Getting It Together", "After The Storm", "Chase The Dream", "Something Becomes The Other", and "Darling Dear". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
