From Mento To Reggae To Third World Music
CD (Item 471613) 17 North Parade/VP, 1973 — Condition: New Copy
An aptly titled collection of very rootsy numbers from the legendary Cedric Brooks! Rootsy in a more generic sense than Roots-y, though there are some excellent roots era Afro-centric numbers included, this set touches on all the important moments in the evolution of Jamaican music, emphasizing the earliest moments from Mento forward, with Brooks focus on Nyabinghi and traditional percussion showcased throughout. Overall the set has less of the heavy African vibe than the Light Of Saba set, with Brooks rendering the prototypical sounds in each style that would lay the foundation for so many other musicians to build upon. 13 tracks in all, including "Nobody's Business", "Sly Mongoose", "Hop Merry Hop", "Steaming", "Schooling The Duke", "Put It On", "Let's Do Rock Steady", "Satta Massa Gana", 'Salt Lane Gal", "Emavungweni", "Third World (Afro Best)" and "Djambala". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
