CD (Item 43350) India Navigation, 1989 — Condition: New Copy

One of a few albums from the late 80s that features underground saxophonist Chico Freeman playing in the company of his father, Chicago tenor giant Von Freeman. This set was recorded live in New York, and it's a bit more straight ahead than the pair's earlier Lord Riff & Me set for the Why Not label – but it comes across nicely, in a mode that shows that Chico has absorbed more than a bit of his pop's strengths over the years. Rhythm is by Kenny Barron, Cecil McBee, and Jack DeJohnette – but Muhal Richard Abrams plays piano on one track, "Paying New York Dues". Other titles include "Undercurrents", "Lover Man", and "The Shadow Of Your Smile".  © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc.
