Burnished Brass (Japanese paper sleeve edition)
CD (Item 573548) Capitol (Japan), 1958 — Condition: New Copy
The George Shearing combo gets a rich new sound – the addition of light brass instrumentation to their already-great blend of jazz, Latin, and exotic modes! As with George's smaller sets for Capitol at the time, there's some great use of vibes and guitar on the record – gently grooving along with the Shearing touch on piano – light, but never loose or sloppy – handled with a perfect sense of timing, but in ways that never hit you over the head! Billy May helps Shearing out on the brass arrangements – but they've usually got the mellower feel that you'd expect from George – which is a great thing in our book. Titles include "If You Were Mine", "Mine", "Burnished Brass", "Basie's Masement", "Blame It On My Youth", and "Cuckoo In The Clock". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
