Bootsy Collins' first solo album as a leader – and a masterpiece of slow bassy funk that set the tone for countless other groups to come! Bootsy steps into the spotlight with a tremendous amount of confidence and personality on the record – emerging as the one real star that could shine brightly on its own in the P-Funk galaxy – oozing personality, sexuality, and super-funky grooves throughout! George Clinton's helping Bootsy out on production a bit, and the rest of the P-Funk regulars are in the group as well – but the album's clearly Bootsy's own, and takes mainstream funk into a whole new sound – one that would really set a high bar for much of the west coast scene in years to come! Includes the massive "I'd Rather Be With You" – plus "Physical Love", "Love Vibes", and "Psychoticbumpschool". (Cover has some wear and seam splitting. Labels have some pen.)  © 1996-2014, Dusty Groove, Inc.

House Of Love
Warner, 1978. Very Good
A perfect pairing of Candi Staton and producer Dave Crawford – that key southern soul talent who helped Candi and a few select others really step into the American soul mainstream at the end of the 70s! Warner, 1977. Near Mint-
Excellent work from Ashford & Simpson – with some modern soul groovers that are among the best they ever did! The album includes their original reading of "Top Of The Stairs", a great sexy soul duet that was later done by Collins & Collins – and it's also got a ... LP, Vinyl record album

My Radio Sure Sounds Good To Me
Warner, 1978. Very Good+
Larry Graham's opening his sound up a fair bit for this one – bringing in a bit more of a rock influence than before, and letting the guitars fly all over the tunes! The style's one that's almost got a bit of a pre-Prince influence – more tightly poppy in the construction of the soul, ... LP, Vinyl record album

Just Being Myself
Warner, 1973. Very Good
While the title may claim that Dionne Warwick is "Just Being Myself", the sound of the set is something completely different – a surprisingly great album that has the lady working with the post-Motown production team of Holland-Dozier-Holland! There's a quality here that resonates ... LP, Vinyl record album

We're Movin Up
Warner, 1989. Very Good+
The last in a long run of 80s hits from Atlantic Starr – a group who were already moving up the soul charts before the release of the album! The set continues their move into commercial territory started a few records before, but it also shakes loose of some of the colder sounds of 80s soul ... LP, Vinyl record album

One of Kelly's last records of the 70s – a bit smoother than some of his earlier work, but still quite strong overall, with some excellent vocals on most tracks. Gene Page handled the arrangements and production – and he gives Kelly some nice backgrounds to work with, ones that have a ... LP, Vinyl record album

Open Sesame
De-Lite, 1976. Very Good Gatefold
A magic carpet ride of funky soul from Kool & The Gang – classic Open Sesame from '76 – one that took the group to a higher level! It's not as rawly funky as some of the group's earlier albums, but they do still bring it, just with a cooler spirtual vibe that we never expected ... LP, Vinyl record album

Valerie Simpson
Tamla, 1972. Near Mint-
Although Valerie Simpson's on her own as the singer here, Nick Ashford was in the studio for most of the set, helping Valerie produce and write most of the cuts on the album. The record's got kind of a hip soul sound that's more LA than Motown – and although we're not always sure it works ... LP, Vinyl record album

Super Fly TNT
Buddah, 1973. Near Mint- Gatefold
Some nice heavy Afro-funk grooves, courtesy of Osibisa, for this follow-up score to the original Super Fly! The sound of the music is quite different than Curtis Mayfield's famous soundtrack – and there's lots of heavy bass and percussion, plus some additional arrangements by Michael Gibbs. ...
