Total Groovy (4CD box set)Various
CD (Item 597979) Groovy/Drag City, Late 70s/Early 80s — Condition: New Copy
The Total Groovy in a 4CD box set – collecting the wildly creative white label releases issued by Pete Shelley in 1979 & 80 – truly a world away from the catchy-as-hell, proto-punk-pop bashed out so tightly by Shelley and his partners in the Buzzcocks! It's stunningly leftfield and flat out weird compared to the accessible sound of the Buzzcocks – you gotta figure his Groovy slate was a pretty cathartic artistic endeavor for Pete & friends. The set includes mini-replica sleeve CD versions of the original albums by tape loop and sound collage artists Free Agents, Pete Shelley's own Sky Yen (recordings that pre-date his time with the Buzzcocks), future Mekon Sally Timms (as Sally Smitt) and the ad hoc synth, drums and experimental sound collective Strange Men In Sheds With Spanners. Truly inspired stuff and good to have collected in a single set – all the better to appreciate how creatively unencumbered the whole flock was at the time! © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
