CD (Item 578691) Charles Owens, 2011 — Condition: New Copy
A cooking new set from reedman Charles Owens – a player who cut some mighty soulful sessions on the LA scene of the 60s and 70s – and who's still going strong today! The record feels like some lost set from the 70s – a mixture of straight soul jazz numbers and some farther-reaching cuts with a more spiritual bent – a bit like something you'd find on the Muse label when they were at their best – with all the honest, human sounds that reference might imply! The group here really works well with Owens too – a killer lineup with Mulgrew Miller on piano, Ron Carter on bass, and Lewis Nash on drums – all recorded with a rock-solid sound in the studio by Rudy Van Gelder. Titles include "Spiritual", "Sham Time", "Praise God", "Little Ditty", and "Mildred's Groove". © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
