Eastern Bloc Funk Experience – Psych Funk, Satellite Soul & Cold War DiscoVarious
CD (Item 601615) Nascente (UK), Late 60s/1970s — Condition: New Copy
Heavy funk from the Soviet scene – rare grooves from the dark side of the Iron Curtain – mostly recorded during the 70s in a wave of surprisingly overlooked sounds! There's some great work here from Poland, The Czech Republic, and Hungary – all scenes that really did a great job of picking up the best electric influences of the Western scene of the time, and turning them towards their own ends in creative, regional ways! The artist and song names are filled with consonants, and virtually unpronounceable to those not in the know – but the music's got a universal appeal that's mighty nice – heavy bits of funk, soul, jazz, and fusion that bubble strongly, and really percolate some massive grooves. And even though we know some of this music from other reissues, there's plenty here we've never heard before – especially given that the collection has a strong focus on soul and club-based modes – which is a change from some of the jazzier compilations of this nature. Titles include "Gorila" by Misa Blam, "Sluchaj Rytmu" by Breakout, "Powrot" by Andrzej Dabrowski, "Definitivni Konec" by The Rebels, "Ko Vjecnu Tugu Nosi" by Pro Arte, "Nehez Fiuk" by Neoton, "Disco King" by Centrum, "Agent 008" by Zesp, and "Za Gora Gor" by Grazyna Lobaszewska & Ergo Band. © 1996-2013, Dusty Groove, Inc. | |||||
